what we do

YWCA Cwmafan

happy young womanYWCA Cwmafan is the only service that reaches out to girls and young women in the area. We encourage them to take part have their say, make new friends and try new things.

Our girls’ groups, which meet after school, are especially popular.

We offer :

  • Group sessions, where the young women learn about bullying, domestic violence, healthy eating, diet and exercise, safe sex and sexual health, alcohol and drugs
  • Courses specifically for young mums and pregnant teenagers. We teach parenting skills and offer support, information and the chance to get their work accredited
  • Community projects, dance workshops, arts and crafts, residentials or outdoor activities
  • Advice and information about education, skills, training and jobs. Many girls find the transition between primary and secondary school, college, training or the outside world extremely difficult; without support they are at risk of dropping out.

By working together new friendships are forged which can restore self-esteem. Many young women go on to become volunteers and get involved in campaigns and their community.
